Choosing eyewear based on face shape:
The oval face is considered most ideal due to its balanced proportions. It has a rounded chin and forehead and appears longer than wide. In order to maintain the balance of the face, we suggest frames that are wider than the broadest part of the face, or walnut shaped frames.
A round face looks circular with full cheeks and a rounded chin. To make the face appear slimmer and longer, we suggest wearing angular narrow frames to lengthen the face, a transparent bridge that widens the eyes, and frames that are wider than they are deep, such as a rectangular shape.
A Square face has a strong jaw line and a broad forehead, and the width and length have the same proportions. In order to elongate the face and soften the angles, we suggest narrow frame styles, and frames that have more width than depth, and narrow oval styles.
The Oblong face is longer than it is wide, and has a long straight cheek line and sometimes a long nose. To make the face look shorter, we suggest frames that have contrasting or decorative temples in order to add width, or a low bridge to shorten the nose.
The pyramid face has a narrow forehead and is wider at the cheek and chin areas. In order to add width to the narrow upper part of the face, we suggest frames that are heavily accented with color or detailing on the top half of the frame, and we also suggest cat-eye styles.
The Base-Up Triangle face has a wide top third and small bottom third with a small chin. In order to minimize the width of the upper portion of the face, we suggest frames that are wider at the bottom, very light colors and materials, and rimless styles. Consider small square or rounded styles.
A Diamond shaped face narrows at the eye line and jaw line, and cheekbones are high. In order to highlight the eyes and emphasize the cheekbones, we suggest frames that have detailing or distinctive brow lines, rimless, oval, or cat-eye styles.
Choosing eyewear based on skin color:
All skin complexions fall into one of two color bases — blue (cool) or yellow (warm).
Cool complexions have blue or pink undertones. Olive skin is considered cool because it is a mixture of blue and yellow. The best eyewear colors to compliment this complexion include black, rose-brown, blue-gray, plum, silver, magenta, pink, jade, blue and demi-amber (darker) tortoise.
Warm complexions have a bronze, golden, “peaches and cream” or yellow cast. The best eyewear colors to compliment this complexion include camel, khaki, gold, copper, peach, orange, coral, off-white, fire-engine red, warm blue and blond tortoise.
Choosing eyewear based on eye color:
We suggest you taking your eye color in consideration when choosing your frames. You do not want your glasses to overpower the color of your eyes. For light colored eyes, we suggest you choose light colored subtle frames. For dark color eyes we suggest prominent and vibrant frames. Also, you can accent your eye color by choosing a frame that is the same color as your eyes.
